Resistance 2 beta in early October News

Sony and Insomniac Games will be holding a worldwide co-operative and multiplayer beta test for Resistance 2 in early October.
There are two options for getting in: premier or open. The first guarantees a spot, but only if you live in the US and buy episode 3 or an annual subscription to Qore, the online PS3 magazine thing.
Open access is more chancey, but simply requires putting your name in the digital hat on the Resistance 2 beta site.
Resistance 2, the PS3 shooter sequel to Resistance: Fall of Man, will be released across the US on 4th November, Japan on 13th November, and Europe in "November". Sigh. We're checking.
Head over to our Resistance 2 gamepage for lots and lots more information.

Gaming Disappointments

We have seen games that have blown us away and games that have failed miserably. Next Gen means games should be better than ever, yet most of these games still haven’t lived up to the words ‘Next Gen’. Read more after the break.

One of the biggest disappointments is ‘Home’. Home is being delayed constantly and leaving Sony fans with only more disappointing news to add on to the pile. It has been rumored that Sony is spending over 40 million dollars on Home - but will that money be worth it? Sony stated, “When it does get released it will be worth the wait.” Sony has already released the beta version of Home in Europe and America recently. Only through invite, so unless you got a email, you will just have to wait until the full version gets released worldwide.

Haze was supposed to be an amazing game with next gen gameplay and graphics but as we all know Haze was over hyped. From the makers of the TimeSplitters series, Free Radical has proved they should continue making games for the PlayStation 2 and not the PlayStation 3. Lets just hope Time Splitters 4 doesn’t follow in the foot steps as Haze. Well, at least it won’t be using the Haze engine.

As you all know, Lair went through a harsh time with reviews mainly because of the control setup. The graphics were really well done and the game play was quite fun - yet the controls were aggravating. Factor 5 admitted defeat and listened to the feedback. They released a patch that allows you to fly with the analog sticks. The reviewers wouldn’t review the game again as it was too late for another review, but I’m guessing it would of done a lot better. Lets just hope the next Factor 5 game will be an improved version of Lair.

Firmware 2.40 has given us power to access the XMB while playing a game. It also added the trophy system and allowed users to enjoy their music while playing games. Unfortunately, current games do not support this feature and will require a patch. Many games will begin to support trophies and some will not. But the firmware didn’t come without any problems. When it was first available to download, many were experiencing problems. Sony said ‘There will be replacements to all PlayStation 3 owners who are experiencing these problems’. It took Sony a week to get the Firmware update back on the servers. This new firmware, 2.41, added a new platinum trophy and a 4th tab to user profiles. With more improvements promised in future firmware updates, we can expect thing can only get better

Rock Band title update makes song transfers possible

Rock Band title update makes song transfers possible
Posted in Games, Xbox 360 by Zan Toplisek on September 4th, 2008 at 22:27
Starting today, an option to transfer 55 tracks from the original Rock Band to the forthcoming sequel is possible by going to the newly introduced “Export Disc” tab in the Rock Band menu. As reported back in July, the new feature will cost you Microsoft Points, 400 MSP to be precise.

Obviously, you need your Xbox 360 to be hooked up to the internet in order for this to work. All of the songs from the Rock Band repertoire (not yet known whether bonus tracks are included) will be exportable once you get your copy of Rock Band 2, save for the following few:

“Paranoid” as made famous by Black Sabbath
“Run to the Hills” as made famous by Iron Maiden
“Enter Sandman” by Metallica

Rock Band 2 (game only) is set for release in North America on September 14.

Randomly selected European gamers to receive US MotorStorm 2 demo News

Randomly selected European PlayStation 3 owners will be able to get their hands on an upcoming demo of MotorStorm: Pacific Rift previously thought to be exclusive to US gamers who bought an episode of PSN show Qore.
Next Thursday the demo will be made available to US gamers who have paid for Episode 4 for the Qore show (USD 2.99), but Sony has said that a number of PSN users on this side of the Atlantic will be emailed a voucher code to access the demo as well.
The demo is thought to include a single track from the game's Air Zone, with support for single-player and two-player split-screen racing.
Sony has already said that the demo will be made available for free a few days before the game's US release. Sony UK has told Eurogamer that this will also be the case in Europe.
For more on the game, check out our MotorStorm: Pacific Rift hands-on preview and the MotorStorm: Pacific Rift Eurogamer TV Show, in which we journey to Evolution Studios and walk around and that.
Update, 2.42pm: Sony has told us that MotorStorm: Pacific Rift is not down for release in the US on 7th October after all, and should be out in November

Beta Reassurance

Beta Reassurance
September 03rd 2008 Posted to KILLZONE News!

Many gamers may have known for quite some time now that the Killzone 2, public beta was slated to be released this year, along with yet another glowing Killzone 2 multiplayer preview, IGN(UK) has mentioned once again that Killzone 2’s public beta will be available “later this year”.
“The Scout also has a secondary ability that enables them to tag all on-screen enemies with a hidden marker, broadcasting their coordinates to team-mates.
Sony has also lifted the lid on the other classes that will appear in the Beta, which is currently in internal testing and is scheduled to go live over the PSN later this year. First up is the Rifleman, who’s the default troop type in the game. They start with a variety of primary and secondary weapons, including grenades, and bigger and better guns can be unlocked as you progress through the ranks. Then there’s the Engineer, whose primary skill is the ability to set up an automated turret that targets the enemy, plus they can repair ammunition dumps, mounted guns and turrets that have been damaged in battle.”
All of the character classes are sounding mighty good. Which class will you be playing come beta time?
As a reminder, the best ways to get into any PlayStation beta is to register your hardware and software at PSU(PlayStation Underground), and in this case, register at Killzone.com and get active on the forums there. Good luck!
