Capcom has confirmed that Resident Evil 5's control system is to undergo an overhaul, with a revised scheme to be unveiled at this October's Tokyo Game Show.
While Resident Evil 5 looks set to be one of the most attractive titles when it hits both Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 early next March, there have been some misgivings about its rehashing of the now-dated control scheme introduced in 2005's Resident Evil 4.
Following rumours it would be replaced, the games producer Jun Takeuchi – speaking at the recent Microsoft Media Briefing, at which Kotaku were in attendance - confirmed that the changes would be made public at the imminent Tokyo Game Show.
With Takeuchi referring to the new system as similar to Gears of War, expect a new duck and cover system to replace the classic Resident Evil style of stop and shoot. How the changes will affect the slow tension engendered by the older system that's been a series staple remains to be seen, but we'll be bringing you full impressions from the Tokyo Game Show this October.

KILLZONE 2
Many gamers may have known for quite some time now that the Killzone 2, public beta was slated to be released this year, along with yet another glowing Killzone 2 multiplayer preview, IGN(UK) has mentioned once again that Killzone 2’s public beta will be available “later this year”.
“The Scout also has a secondary ability that enables them to tag all on-screen enemies with a hidden marker, broadcasting their coordinates to team-mates.
Sony has also lifted the lid on the other classes that will appear in the Beta, which is currently in internal testing and is scheduled to go live over the PSN later this year. First up is the Rifleman, who’s the default troop type in the game. They start with a variety of primary and secondary weapons, including grenades, and bigger and better guns can be unlocked as you progress through the ranks. Then there’s the Engineer, whose primary skill is the ability to set up an automated turret that targets the enemy, plus they can repair ammunition dumps, mounted guns and turrets that have been damaged in battle.”
All of the character classes are sounding mighty good. Which class will you be playing come beta time?
As a reminder, the best ways to get into any PlayStation beta is to register your hardware and software at PSU(PlayStation Underground), and in this case, register at Killzone.com and get active on the forums there. Good luck!

SOCOM: Confrontation beta keys
Those of you wondering whether Sony plans to run the SOCOM Confrontation multiplayer beta in Europe can stop fretting: it does, and Eurogamer will have 6,000 keys to give away when it begins.
As revealed on the PlayStation Blog overnight, the SOCOM beta will run for a full month in the US from 5th September to 5th October - and while Sony has yet to confirm exact details for Europe, we've been told it's okay to advise you about the keys. So hey, we've got keys! Woo!
SOCOM: Confrontation - as you of course know, because you're amazing - is a realistic-edged tactical third-person shooter from Slant Six with all sorts of cunning clan elements to support its online multiplayer premise.
The full game is due out in October in the US (and hopefully here), and you can check out our SOCOM: Confrontation gamepage for the latest screenshots, trailers and news.
We expect demand for the keys to be heavy, so keep an eye on Eurogamer over the next few days for an update on the giveaway.
Update, 3rd September: Sony has been in touch to say that we can only give the codes to people in the UK, because other territories have arranged their own promotions. Obviously we would prefer to give them to anyone, but it's not up to us in this case. So that's bad news. On the plus side, that means there will be more in circulation elsewhere, so Eurogamer readers outside the UK should keep their eye on local news sources for more.

Resistance 2 beta in early October News
Sony and Insomniac Games will be holding a worldwide co-operative and multiplayer beta test for Resistance 2 in early October.
There are two options for getting in: premier or open. The first guarantees a spot, but only if you live in the US and buy episode 3 or an annual subscription to Qore, the online PS3 magazine thing.
Open access is more chancey, but simply requires putting your name in the digital hat on the Resistance 2 beta site.
Resistance 2, the PS3 shooter sequel to Resistance: Fall of Man, will be released across the US on 4th November, Japan on 13th November, and Europe in "November". Sigh. We're checking.
Head over to our Resistance 2 gamepage for lots and lots more information.

Pure demo out this week
Disney has confirmed that it will release a playable demo for Pure onto Xbox Live and PlayStation Network this Thursday.
The demo will allow you to play on the Italy Mount Garda track, taking you through a tutorial of the new trick system, and letting you loose in a three-lap race. The full game is out in late September, but you should definitely snap up the demo, if just to see how incredible a game can look.
