Uncharted 2 development confirmed

We all knew this was happening, but today we have been given official confirmation by Naughty Dog, stating that Uncharted 2 is in development.

There isn’t much information other than this, but it is definitely great news, not just for fans but for the PlayStation brand!

Bring on Uncharted 2!

SOCOM.com Fallen

By now, everyone's seen the seventh map for SOCOM: U.S. Navy SEALs Confrontation. Fallen is probably my favorite map out of the new ones, and I'm curious to see the response to it. The overall idea is that Fallen is an abandoned Roman temple in Northern Africa. It was abandoned ages ago, but has recently become a point of contention for forces in the area. Its isolated location and mountainous surroundings make it easy to defend, so it will be an important tactical asset to whichever side captures it. The interiors are broken down and blasted, but there is obvious reconstruction and fortification work underway. There are track lights along the floor, a tank full of gas for a generator outside, and scaffolding holding up both an underground tunnel (which looks like a mine) and set up outside both bases. Fallen is one of those semi-symmetrical maps. While the bases are not exact mirror images of each other, the Commandos and Mercs have similar assets on each side of the central area. Both bases have two bridges and a path leading down into the water surrounding the temple itself. The layout is pretty spectacular, too. There is plenty of room to run and fight, but the wide-open areas are littered with broken columns and debris that can result in some pretty decent cover in an emergency situation. The central ruins are an enclosed room, but it connects to two smaller rooms for more mayhem and fun. The mix of architecture, design, and just sheer fun to be had in this map is great. I love playing on it. Check out the screenshots and video and let me know what you think of this map so far!

Pro Evolution Soccer 2009 demo set to arrive on Thursday

Similarly to how Electronic Arts offered a taste of the upcoming FIFA 09 in the Playstation Store earlier in the month, Konami will be releasing a playable demo for Pro Evolution Soccer 2009 this Thursday.

The demo will feature a five-minute exhibition match, which will support multiplayer, and promotional videos for the new “Become a Legend” and online “Legends” modes. As far as teams are concerned, players will be able to choose between Liverpool, Manchester United, Real Madrid, Barcelona, and the Italian and French national teams, all of which will be fully licensed.
Anybody looking forward to trying out the game?

16,000 copies of Brothers in Arms: Hell’s Highway stolen twice

According to this Sun report, 16,000 copies of Brothers in Arms: Hell’s Highway were stolen from a delivery lorry - and then re-nicked after the haul was impounded by the police.
“Shutters at cops’ secure depot were smashed open and the vehicle driven off before being checked for fingerprints or DNA,” says the piece.
A police spokesman said: “We are pursuing a number of lines of enquiry, including eBay transactions where a number of the games have been potentially identified as being advertised for sale. Arrests have already been made in respect of this.”
The loot was stolen in Northampton while the driver rested. The games were just PS3 discs, apparently.

LittleBigPlanet Being Released on Disc and PSN?

In a new article from Reuters, LittleBigPlanet was changing gamers into creators. However, Tommy-Cronin was able to spot out that the article also mentioned that:
The winning Parsons entrants will be playable in the final version of LittleBigPlanet in a special Parsons section of the game. Sony will release the game, both as a retail disc and as a digital download, through PlayStation Network on Oct 21.
Debate away in the comments as to whether this is true, or if it was possibly just a misunderstanding and Reuters was uninformed.

Sony Considering Subscription Fees for MAG?

Report of a PlayStation Underground survey suggests Sony may want to make MAG pay-to-play.
Sony's MAG was one of the bigger surprises at E3 last July -- both figuratively and literally, considering it's aiming to pit 256 players against each other in gigantic online matches. But according to reports of a new survey sent to PlayStation Underground members, it may not be cheap to participate: The Bitbag reports (via Kotaku) that the survey (sent with the subject header "Short survey, Big new game") asks a number of questions about potential fees for MAG, including a yearly subscription, monthly subscription, or one-time fees for new features.
According to Bitbag's story, the survey asked "at least 15 questions related to payment plans for the game." Possible options may be either a yearly fee, a monthly fee, or individual one-time fees for "content downloads." Even more interesting, the survey also suggests the possibility that Sony may partner with Electronic Arts or Activision Blizzard for hosting services.
An important note: While Bitbag posted an image of the email itself (a portion of which is shown above), they didn't capture any images of the survey. Still, a reader in the comments section confirmed the survey did indeed ask subscription questions, and posted a link to his blog that shows two images claimed to be from this survey (shown below). This person also says that prices asked about ranged from $45-$125 for yearly fees, and $3-$12 for one-time purchases of content.
As you surely already know, none of this means MAG will require subscription fees whenever it comes out -- but it does at least suggest Sony is seriously considering the possibility, and is trying to gauge how these plans would go over with gamers.

SOCOM Confrontation Public Beta 1.40 Patch Incoming

We are happy to announce that the SOCOM Confrontation Public Beta 1.40 Patch will be released on Friday, September 26th, at 1200 GMT/UTC (8am EDT, 5am PDT, 1pm BST, 9pm JST).The SOCOM Confrontation 1.40 patch addresses the following issues:
Fixed an issue which was causing an abnormally large number of simultaneous kills.
Optimized the Armory so that selecting weapons, attachments and general menu navigation are much faster.
Fixed another issue where you could get stuck in spectator cam when late joining a game.
Fixed an issue where occasionally late joiners would have very low framerate and crash when exiting a game.
Fixed an issue where occasionally late joiners would have no audio.
Statistics improvements. Statistics are now being tracked at the team level and not the player level. This will ensure stats are tracked for dropped and late joining players.
Further improved load times for late joiners.
Fixed several stability issues. The following changes were made based on user feedback:
Added new burst firing accuracy tuning when moving. You are now more accurate for the initial burst while moving but accuracy deteriorates as you continue to fire more shots.
Scopes are now accurate.
The select screen scoreboard is now exited by pressing the select button.
Improved tiebreaker rules.
New HUD animation to indicate when you are reloading.
Crosshairs now turn grey when your magazine is empty. We are actively looking into the following issues which are known to exist in the 1.40 patch. These issues will be fixed in a future update.
The select screen scoreboard, round complete and game complete screens appear blank.
Infrequently, some users loose controller functionality for a couple of seconds.
Please note, this patch also adds game logic to limit the number of people who can late join a game to 5 at a time. If more than 5 people attempt to late join the game you receive a "Game Full" error even though there are still slots in the game. This will be improved in a future update. Also note, the network latency detection has been added back in. We believe that we have now worked out most of the issues with this. Please report in the SOCOM Confrontation PlayStation.com forums if you are seeing the "red X" disconnect icon under normal gameplay conditions

LittleBigPlanet: Public Beta Madness!

As you may or may not have heard, the burning question recently has been - “HOW THE HECK DO I GET ON THE LITTLEBIGPLANET PUBLIC BETA!?!?”
Some of our friends in Europe found out this week and are still recovering. If you have been frequenting sites like GameInformer.com, GamePro, and GameSpot you might have scored a key already or are waiting to hear back. Even our friends at G4 are in the mix.
Where will this elusive beta strike next?
If I were a betting man, (and I am) I’d say it would be sure to hit more of your favorite gaming sites in the next few days. I’d be looking for sites that have been covering games for years. Staking out passionate gaming communities or locations online where you can view the latest gaming videos. Of course I would be surprised if the Public Beta didn’t show up in places where you’d expect to get all the latest LBP info and updates.
All I can say is we are super happy to give some of you a chance to get a sneak peak at what LittleBigPlanet is all about. I have officially stopped doing office work for the next few weeks in anticipation of all the levels you all are going to make. (I’m going to be too busy playing and building.) If you are one of the lucky ones who score a key, thank you in advance for participating and helping us get our servers ready for our launch on October 21st!
Be sure to refer to the details below once you get your Beta key. Good luck to all and happy hunting!
ps- Quick question, I know we announced all the cool pre-order goodies already but I’m wondering which one you are all going for….let’s say we have an on-going bet in the office. (Told you I was a betting man.)
Please note the following instructions below which will help you install the Public Beta voucher:
1) Public Beta Ends October 11th, 2008
2) You must use a consumer PLAYSTATION® 3 system that is connected to the internet.
3) You must have a PLAYSTATION®Network Account.
4) If you have previously redeemed a LBP voucher code, you must delete any old LBP data (along with save data and game data) and download this version(go to Download History and redownload the new code).
5) This version does not require a DNS redirect and levels created here will be available for consumers at launch of the full title.
6) Please refrain from creating anything inappropriate, as we do have moderation in place and it may result in your account being suspended or banned.
Downloading the LittleBigPlanet Public Beta. After you have signed in with your PLAYSTATION Network Account, select [Account Management] on the XMB interface located under the ‘PLAYSTATION Network’ tab, then select [Transaction Management] and click on the option ‘Redeem PLAYSTATION Network Card or Promotion Code’. Enter the following unique code to start the download of LittleBigPlanet.

NXE – What You Want to Know: Themes 2.0 and Friends Channel

Ahhh Themes - There's been a lot of chatter about whether or not you can keep what you have, how they will look and how the new stuff will be different. We'll be tackling all of that today so pay attention! Also in this week’s Developer Diaries, we’re going to show you more on the new Friends Channel - another area we got a lot of questions about after we first showed it to you at E3.
This fall, themes are getting even more detailed with the New Xbox Experience. Themes will take over more than just the background of your Dashboard – they will be present on every channel in cool, dynamic ways. Yes, I said, "DYNAMIC." Check out the screens below that show the Underground Theme on the Dashboard and the Friends Channel. (Remember, to see the images more clearly, click on them and you will be sent to our flickr feed.)

Every graphic on each channel will tie into your theme and change if you choose a different one. You can really see this on the Friends Channel – each of your friends' Avatars will stand next to a different graphic or environment. These graphics will match the theme you choose and will change dynamically as you navigate from channel to channel. But that’s not all; the themes will be subtly animated. This is some pretty cool stuff when you see it.
This is what your Dashboard and Friends Channel would look like with the Signature Theme – picture the bubbles in the background moving, shrinking, growing – you get the idea.

Also on the Friends Channel, you’ll be able to see your friends’ Avatars rally when you host a LIVE party. You can see who is online and offline by what their Avatars are doing, too. Online? Your friends will emote and be able to wave you over to jump into their party. Offline? Well, they’re snoozing, of course.

Finally (and many of you have asked us about this) don’t worry – you can still use the themes you previously purchased with the New Xbox Experience. They’ll look even better over the new UI, especially in high-definition. Below is what a current “Gears of War” theme would look like:

That’s it for this week’s Developer Diaries. We hope you like what you’ve seen so far, and check back next week for more details on the New Xbox Experience.

Want the MotorStorm Pacific Rift Demo?

There is now an alternative to QORE for those who want to try out the MotorStorm: Pacific Rift Demo. Simply make a preorder over at Gamestop, or EB Games, and you can try the game before it comes out. It seems that the demo is the same as the one in QORE, so if you already have the build from QORE, then don’t worry. However, those looking out to try the game out - make a preorder, and if you don’t like it you can always pull out of the preorder. However, you have our word, MotorStorm Pacific Rift is going to be a huge title for the PS3.

Fuel

David Brickley Calls Burnout a Postage Stamp Compared to Fuel
Producer claims game would fill four Blu-ray discs if developed using traditional methods

.
If what Codemasters executive producer David Brickley says is true, the game world in Fuel will be much bigger than almost anything we've seen before. In an interview with Videogamer (via Joystiq), Brickley said the game world in Fuel makes Burnout: Paradise's Paradise City look like a "postage stamp."
According to the developer, Fuel's world map is an insane 5,000 square miles. When asked how many Paradise Cities would fit inside that area, Brickley said, "I did a little Power Point internally to do it and it zoomed them in to each other. It's like a little postage stamp because I think it does like four kilometres or something." Additionally, he claimed that if Fuel were developed using traditional means, the game would fill four Blu-ray discs.
Although Brickley is obviously taking a good-natured jab at Criterion's latest game, he doesn't see the two games directly competing. "They probably compliment each other quite well," said Brickley. Still, once they've opened up the size comparisons, it's hard not to think about them. Does Fuel's crazy amount of ground to cover get you excited, or are you more interested in the smaller, concentrated area of Burnout: Paradise?

Halo 3 Title Update Makes Armor Unlocks Easier

30 new achievements provide more options for earning secret gear.

Halo fans might recall the special sets of armor in Halo 3 that were only unlockable by completing various in-game tasks. According to reports from community-run Halo site Halo.Bungie.org, this week's title update for Halo 3 may have had some unforeseen side effects when it comes to obtaining those elusive pieces of gear.
Specifically, the Security and Katana armor sets were originally triggered by earning a Halo 3 gamerscore of 1000 points -- previously only possible by getting all 49 of the game's achievements. Despite the addition of 30 new achievements this week, that prerequisite remains unchanged -- providing players with tons of fresh options for reaching that goal. Apparently the only other caveat is that you must also have collected at least 49 total achievements.
Whether this was Bungie's intent or just an overlooked glitch, it should be much easier for more casual Halo players to frag in style. Considering the number of ridiculous exploits people have used to score this loot in the past, it's probably for the best if it's even a little easier to come by.

NEW THINGS HAPPENING

I have added some new things to the site like our own game sales section so i hope you use it, i see the clan list is still empty and some of the ladders have frozen to a stand still, we cant attract more members if it looks like we're all sat on our hands doing nothing, i have some big plans for next year, new adverts, new site and ods and ends, big tournaments and prizes, so hang in there people.

i havn't started my ad campaign as i fell with xmas coming up people have other things on their mind so we will kick it all of next year, i could do with more staff, aswell me and chifef have enough to do as it is, and if we get busier it will get over wellming, so if you can help us then get intouch please, cheers

i have banned four players for 35 days for playing team matches with only one player on each side, do you think i wont notice things like this, well your wrong i see everything that go's down on this site as i have a record of everything, and check it everyday, let this be a warning to all cheats i will ban you, so dont bother if you want to cheat our members go and join gamebattles, they cater nicely for you.

i am canceling the burnout competition as no one as bothered with it so if you were playing in it sorry but its going the ladder will stay up, but the prize is gone i will pass it over to the fifa ladder instead.

i have launched uwonit.co.uk, and would ask anyone who can be bothered to join it then do so, it will help us cheers

EBAY SUCKS AND I WISH I HAD THE POWER TO SHUT THEM DOWN

I have to get this of my chest, ebay suck big time, i have been banned for selling pre-ordered games, they have treated me like a crook, they presume i am taking peoples money then not sending games, or selling games that aint out yet, i have been on ebay for seven years with no trouble, now they are using heavy handed tricks to get rid of people they feel are competition for other more lucritive members, what is wrong with selling a game due out, everyone does it even the game writers so why cant i, well screw them, i checked the net today and there is alot of people like me,who have been done over by these crooks ebay, it aint bad enough that the games i sole on there they got more cash out of it than me, they banned me, great tactics that aint it, well i see the end of ebay, and paypal their partners, you cant treat people like crooks and get away with it, if they had a problem with what i was doing they should have asked me first instead of banning me, i have been a business man for a long time, i aint in the game of ripping people of, if games havn't turned up and todate there as only been one, i have refunded the customer straight away,

i feel they have treated me no better than a crook so screw them there is enough websites out there where you can sell your goods so i say stand up and be counted and do away with ebay and paypal, there is google checkout now its better cheaper and easier and you aint financing ebay by having a paypal account.
